The Syrian Ministry of Health confirmed that it is continuing to implement an intensive field response plan to contain the outbreak of Hepatitis A in the town of Mahja in the northern countryside of Daraa, following a noticeable increase in cases since mid-April.

The ministry explained that the measures taken included supplying the family health center with the necessary medical equipment to handle cases, which reached 110 infections as of April 27.

It also indicated that interventions focused on addressing the root causes of contamination, including installing solar power systems for pumping stations to ensure the continuous chlorination of water, closing pollution sources caused by sewage leaks, preventing irrigation of crops with unsafe water, and keeping livestock away from drinking water sources.

The ministry noted that daily epidemiological monitoring is ongoing, along with preparations for follow-up supervisory visits in cooperation with the World Health Organization, to ensure the effectiveness of environmental and health interventions and to limit the spread of the disease.
