Exclusive – Dimasheq

Syrian theatre director Maher Salibi, director of the play Dress Rehearsal for Judgment Day, affirmed in an exclusive statement to Dimasheq that theatre will continue to thrive despite rapid technological advancements and the widespread influence of social media platforms, stressing that the existence of theatre reflects a society’s cultural maturity and its respect for people and the arts.

Salibi said: “Any country that has theatre is a civilized and great country that respects its people and its audience.” He added that theatre, often described as the “father of all arts,” will preserve its distinguished status thanks to the unique experience it offers—one that no other art form can replicate.

He explained that the direct interaction between actors on stage and the audience is the essence of the theatrical experience, noting that this live connection cannot be recreated in cinema, television, or through social media, making theatre truly exceptional and ensuring its enduring relevance.

Concluding his remarks, Salibi shared the message behind Dress Rehearsal for Judgment Day, saying:

“This play is a belated apology, but it is all we have today to seek justice for those whose voices were never heard.”
