Lebanese Minister of Economy and Trade, Amer Bisat, announced that the idea of establishing the “Lebanese-Syrian Higher Business Council” had been proposed some time ago, and that an agreement had been reached to hold the council’s first meeting at the end of next June.
He explained that the council will include representatives from the private sector, while the Ministry of Economy will oversee, support, and monitor its activities, in addition to contributing to the preparation of its agenda and providing the necessary guidance.
Bisat stressed the importance of relations between Lebanon and Syria, affirming that the geographical and historical ties between the two countries make the development of these relations a strategic priority for the Lebanese government.
He also pointed out that institutional economic relations with Syria require modernization and perhaps even complete restructuring, noting that the current steps have placed this process on the right track, although achieving the desired results may take time.
Furthermore, he revealed that the Syrian side has shown clear openness and commitment toward Lebanon’s efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation, emphasizing that there is a shared conviction that Syria’s prosperity positively impacts Lebanon, and vice versa, and that this new phase of relations is based on mutual interests and mutual respect.
