Private sources told “Al-Mudun” that Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa expressed strong enthusiasm during his recent visit to Deir ez-Zor province for launching extensive development projects in the eastern provinces, following the damage caused by the rising water levels of the Euphrates River and the resulting losses to infrastructure and agricultural lands.
According to the sources, al-Sharaa emphasized during meetings with local officials the need to move from the emergency response phase to a phase of sustainable development, stressing that the eastern region deserves a larger share of government projects due to its natural resources, as well as its oil and agricultural wealth.
The sources added that discussions included preliminary plans to establish new factories and industrial facilities, in addition to projects related to manufacturing industries, energy, and oil refining, aimed at boosting local development and creating wide employment opportunities for residents.
The sources reported that the president affirmed that part of the revenues and resources of the eastern region should be directly reflected in its service and development conditions, contributing to addressing the impacts of years of war and neglect and improving living standards.
They also noted that al-Sharaa instructed governors and local administrations in the eastern provinces to prepare comprehensive development plans in the coming period, including investment projects, infrastructure works, and programs capable of providing thousands of job opportunities for young people.
These directions came during a visit by al-Sharaa to Deir ez-Zor to assess the impact of the rising Euphrates River and the measures taken to address its effects, where he met with local officials and reviewed the humanitarian and service situation in the province. Media reports confirmed that the visit aimed to follow up on the repercussions of the river’s rising levels and related government measures.
