A delegation from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and Amnesty International, accompanied by representatives of Syria’s Transitional Justice Commission and the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visited the town of Tremseh in the Hama countryside on Sunday, marking the 14th anniversary of the massacre committed by the Assad regime against the town’s residents.
Mohammad Al-Sharif, Director of Public Relations at the Hama Governorate, stated that the visit aimed to commemorate the victims, express solidarity with their families, hear testimonies from survivors, and review the details of the massacre and the killings that targeted unarmed civilians.
Al-Sharif added that the delegation emphasized the importance of documenting the massacre as part of the national memory, contributing to the pursuit of justice, holding those responsible for the violations accountable, and ensuring justice and compensation for the victims’ families, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
Residents of Tremseh also commemorated the 14th anniversary of the massacre, which took place on July 12, 2012, reaffirming their commitment to truth and justice and renewing their call to hold those responsible accountable, in support of the transitional justice process and efforts to strengthen civil peace.
