The Tartous Governorate announced the launch of a comprehensive plan to improve the city’s overall appearance and upgrade its infrastructure in preparation for the upcoming tourist season, through extensive maintenance and rehabilitation works on the seafront corniche.
Ali Mahmoud, Director of Services and Maintenance at the Tartous City Council, explained that these works come in conjunction with the approaching summer season and the expected increase in tourist activity, especially along the seafront corniche, which has suffered from neglect over the past years. He added that work crews have already begun painting the edges of sidewalks along the three lanes of the corniche, which include two main lanes and one service lane.
Mahmoud also pointed out that the rehabilitation works included restoring sidewalks stretching nearly 10,000 linear meters, in preparation for the painting phase, noting that the section extending between Al-Zaytouna Roundabout and Al-Ghamqa River has already been completed.
He confirmed that the work crews will continue operating intensively over the next two days in both morning and evening shifts, with the aim of completing the rehabilitation of the section extending from Al-Zaytouna Roundabout to Porto Roundabout. The works will later continue to include the sidewalks located between the Old Military Police Roundabout and Al-Mujamma Roundabout, as part of a gradual plan to improve the condition of the city’s seafront corniche.
