The Director of Education in Al-Hasakah Governorate, Adnan Bri, revealed that 19,400 teachers affiliated with the Autonomous Administration have been transferred as permanent employees to the Syrian Ministry of Education payroll, stressing that “not a single teacher will remain outside the official staffing system.”

Bri explained that the Directorate of Education has become administratively linked to the Syrian Ministry of Education, while the educational status of teachers previously affiliated with the “Education Authority” is still being addressed. He noted that the issue of language and teaching methods will be resolved soon.

He added that the Autonomous Administration’s Kurdish-language curriculum will remain in use until a new national curriculum is prepared by 2028, pointing out that the upcoming curriculum will take into account the characteristics of all communities, especially Kurds, and will also be translated into Kurdish.

Bri confirmed that the Syrian government does not oppose teaching in the Kurdish language at different educational stages, but said the challenge lies in ensuring students master Arabic when transitioning from secondary education to university studies. He noted that efforts are currently underway to find suitable solutions to this issue.

He also stated that the number of students in the governorate exceeds 700,000, including students studying under both the Autonomous Administration curriculum and the Ministry of Education curriculum, in addition to the presence of around 2,000 schools, 70% of which require rehabilitation due to their poor condition.
