In a scene that celebrated the living memory of the community, the activities of Intangible Heritage Week at the Homs Directorate of Culture concluded with the traditional event “The Zaidali Traditional Wedding,” which revived an authentic aspect of popular heritage, evoking its rituals, customs, chants, and social practices that generations have inherited and that remain preserved in the collective memory of the people of the region.
The event, organized in cooperation with the Mar Gerges Zaidal Scout Team, aimed to embody the objectives of Intangible Heritage Week by introducing non-material heritage elements and highlighting their cultural and social importance as a fundamental component of national identity and a cornerstone of the community’s collective memory, linking past and present.
The celebration included a presentation of traditional wedding customs accompanied by folk songs, chants, and inherited social traditions, forming a heritage tableau that reflected the richness of the local cultural legacy and emphasized its role in strengthening belonging and preserving cultural distinctiveness.
The “Zaidali Traditional Wedding” is considered one of the prominent events that concluded a week full of cultural and heritage activities, which shed light on the treasures of intangible heritage in the Homs governorate. It also contributed to raising awareness about the importance of preserving, documenting, and transmitting it to future generations, ensuring its continuity and presence in collective consciousness as an integral part of Syrian cultural identity.
