As part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Week activities, and in cooperation with Noor Emesa Association, the Directorate of Culture in Homs organized a heritage session entitled “From Grandmothers’ Memories”, attended by a number of individuals interested in heritage and folk culture.
The session provided an opportunity to revisit authentic elements of popular heritage, highlighting the stories, tales, proverbs, social customs, and folk songs preserved in grandmothers’ memories—traditions that accompanied the lives of past generations and formed an important part of the community’s cultural identity.
Participants discussed the importance of preserving this intangible heritage and passing it on to younger generations, considering it a valuable cultural and human legacy that documents the details of everyday life and reflects the values and customs inherited by society over time. The session also witnessed active engagement from attendees, who shared their own memories and experiences related to folk heritage, creating an atmosphere that evoked the spirit of the past and emphasized the role of collective memory in safeguarding heritage and protecting it from disappearance.
This event comes as part of the Directorate of Culture in Homs’ efforts to promote awareness of intangible cultural heritage elements and highlight their importance in strengthening cultural identity and deepening connections with roots and traditional heritage.
