Statement by Lawyer Adel Khallian
A video documenting a horrific murder that claimed the life of the young Syrian woman Fatima Mohammad Al-Naif has been widely circulated on social media. At the same time, inaccurate information has spread claiming that the perpetrator was Syrian or a relative of the victim.
After contacting the victim’s family and obtaining their consent, we would like to clarify the following facts to the public:
The late Fatima Mohammad Al-Naif, a Syrian national from Idlib Governorate, was married to the Lebanese citizen Ayman Al-Khader, with whom she had two children.
Four years ago, her husband was imprisoned after being convicted of murdering his uncle (his father’s brother).
After years of waiting, the victim filed for separation before the Sharia Court in Tripoli and obtained a divorce ruling. She was also granted visitation rights to see her two children one day per week.
According to her family, she was later prevented from seeing her children unless she agreed to return to her former husband, which she firmly refused.
The family further confirmed that her ex-husband sent her threats from prison, stating that if she refused to return to him, he would send people to kill her.
Only four days after those threats, his brother, Ismail Al-Khader (a Lebanese national), allegedly went to her workplace, pursued her, and deliberately fired more than five bullets at her, causing her immediate death, according to the family’s account.
A criminal complaint and lawsuit have been filed at the Mina Police Station in Tripoli against the alleged killer, his brother who accompanied him, and the imprisoned ex-husband as an instigator and accomplice in the crime, pending the outcome of the ongoing judicial investigations.
The victim’s body is scheduled to be transferred to Syria for burial in her hometown of Deir Al-Gharbi, in the Ma’arrat al-Numan area of Idlib Governorate.
Available information also indicates that the alleged killer had previously spent seven years in prison and had been released only about one month ago.
We call upon all media outlets and news pages to exercise accuracy and responsibility when reporting on this crime and to refrain from publishing misleading or unverified information, particularly claims that the perpetrator was Syrian.
We also urge the Lebanese authorities to take all necessary legal measures against everyone involved, uncover the full circumstances of this crime, and hold those responsible accountable under the law.
May God have mercy on Fatima Mohammad Al-Naif, and may her family be granted patience and strength in this difficult time.
